Sophomore Edwin Alston earned the NEC Track Athlete of the Week honor for his accomplishments at the Armory Invitational this past Friday and Saturday at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York, NY.
Alston's appearance at the Armory Track Invitational yielded a CCSU program record. Alston placed first in the third heat of the preliminary race with a time of 8.14. Becoming the first NEC hurdler to dip under the 8.0-second mark this season, Alston clocked in at 7.95 during his semifinal heat. The time broke the program record that Alston himself set one week earlier when he ran 8.01 at the John Thomas Terrier Invite.
In the finals at the Armory, Alston crossed the line in 8.00 to finish sixth overall in the vaunted field, which featured Division I national leader Chad Zallow (Youngstown State). Alston ranks sixth overall on the IC4A regional leader board and sits in the No. 42 spot on the NCAA DI national performance list.
Alston and the Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team, will next travel this Friday, Feb. 11, to Boston University for the David Hemery Invitational.
