Alston leads Men's Track and Field at Joe Donahue Invite, Friday
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team participated at the Joe Donahue Invitational Friday.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team traveled to Boston, M.A. on Friday, January 20 for the Joe Donahue Games hosted by Northeastern University. The meet was held at the famous Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. Sophomore Edwin Alston won the 60 meter hurdle event, posting a time of 8.17 in the finals.
Blue Devil junior, Jevon Elmore placed second in the 60 meter dash, while running a IC4A/ECAC quallifying time of 6.96. In the 60 meter preliminary race, Elmore took top honors (7.01), and fellow classmate Julio Gil-Martinez finished in ninth at the 7.24 mark.
Martinez was the lone CCSU representative in the 200 meter dash, coming in 13th place (23.58). Rookie Julio Arendondo shined in the top-five of the 800 meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:57.51.
Austin Trainor ran the 1,000 meter run under IC4A/ECAC qualifying standards with a time of 2:28.64, marking a collegiate high for the junior. In the 500 meter dash, second year track member, Richard Grudzwick, also grabbed a personal record time of 1:04.63, meeting regional requirements in the process.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth spots in the 400 meter dash belonged to senior Zach Andrews (50.49), rookie Jack St. Clair (52.66), and sophomore Franklin Jr. Bartley (53.09).
Freshman Robert Piotto finished second in the 3,000 meter run completing the event in 8:53.90. The CCSU 4x4 relay team including Zach Andrews, Malcolm Connor, Grudzwick, and Kendall Walker came in fourth place with a time of 3:24.69.
In the pole vault event, junior Sam Borecki placed fourth after throwing 4.65 meter. Central took the fifth-seventh places in the standings in the long jump, recording leaps fromSt. Clair (6.69), junior Tyler Latham (6.64), and rookie Marquis Ward (6.59).
CCSU's men's track and field team will next travel right back to Boston on Friday, January 27 to compete at the Boston University Terrier Meet.
