Men's Track Chosen to Win Fourth Straight in Preseason Coaches' Poll
The CCSU men's outdoor track and field team was predicted to win its fourth straight NEC Title which will take place on May 6-7 at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, M.D.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team was selected as the preseason favorite to win its fourth straight Northeast Conference Championship in the 2016 NEC Coaches' Poll as announced by the league's front office via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Devils have won the previous three NEC titles edging out LIU Brooklyn at last year's conference championship on their home turf in New Britain, CT. The 2017 NEC Outdoor Championships will take place at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD on May 6-7.
Central received four first place votes to sit them atop the preseason prediction list. LIU Brooklyn preceeded them in second place with a total of three first place votes. Sacred Heart claimed a pair of first place votes and was predicted third, recreating last year's coaches' poll's top-three predictions.
Wagner was chosen fourth followed by Saint Francis U, Mount St. Mary's, Fairleigh Dickinson, Bryant, and St. Francis Brooklyn to round out the nine team ballot.
The Blue Devils will be under the direction of the three-time (2014-16) Northeast Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, led by Eric Blake in his seventh year at the helm.
The men's outdoor track and field team's 2017 campaign will begin on April 1 as they host CCSU Blue Devil Invite, in New Britain, CT. A full list of event time and heast sheets will be posted as soon as they become available for the meet.
