Green Announces Five Newcomers for 2015
Head Coach Shaun Green has added five for the Blue Devils' men's soccer program in 2015.
Head coach Shaun Green and the Central Connecticut men's soccer team have added five newcomers for the upcoming 2015 season. The incoming group will join a talented and experienced roster for next season.
CCSU will welcome Alex Hastings, Quentin Lux, Viktor Damgaard, Ygor Silva and Daniel Lobello.
ALEX HASTINGS - Brisbane, Australia - Defense
Hastings is a central defender who played two seasons at Otero Junior College in La Junta, CO. As a sophomore he was named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire Junior College All-America Second Team and earned First Team All-West Region honors for the second time. In his freshman season, Hastings was selected as one of three team captains and led his team to the Region IX Championship. He was named First Team All-West Region and finished with four goals and an assist.
"Alex is a talented Central Defender who has played at the highest level of youth soccer in Australia. He is athletic, powerful in the air and tenacious in the tackle. He will make an immediate impact on our program in the back line and I predict he will excel at the NCAA Division I level at CCSU. He comes from a great soccer background. His father, Brian, is a well-respected coach and his brother, Mikhail, is also an outstanding player. Alex is a top-class person and we are extremely fortunate that he has chosen CCSU to continue his soccer career and education."-Head Coach Shaun Green.
QUENTIN LUX - Plainville, CT - Midfield
Lux is an attacking wide midfielder from Plainville High School in Plainville, CT. He was a two-time All-Conference selection, who was also an All-Conference performer in track. Lux plays club soccer for CFC Azul, which has won three consecutive state titles and have been to the national championships. Last season he scored 10 goals and led the team with 11 assists.
"Quentin is an exciting attacking midfielder with great speed and foot skills. He can deliver accurate crosses and also score goals. I feel Quentin is a super, local prospect who can contribute immediately to our starting lineup. We are looking forward to seeing Quentin playing for CCSU in the fall."-Head Coach Shaun Green.
VIKTOR DAMGAARD - Lyngby, Denmark - Defense
Damgaard is an elite defender playing for Lyngby (Premier League Academy) at the highest level of youth soccer in Denmark. As a youth player in Denmark, Damgaard played for Farum Boldklub until he was 15 years old. During this period he was selected as one of the best youth players in Denmark and was chosen to represent the Under-15 National Team in a friendly against Sweden. After Farum Boldklub, he played for FC Nordsjælland before moving to his current club, Lyngby Boldklub.
"Viktor is a quality defender who has youth national team experience for his country. He is a very intelligent player on the field and has excellent composer under pressure. His technical ability and 1v1 defending skills are outstanding. He is dominant in the air and strong in the tackle. He also will be maturity and leadership to our team. I expect Viktor to compete immediately for a starting position in defense. He has all the tools to play division one soccer. We are so thrilled he will be playing CCSU next season."-Head Coach Shaun Green
YGOR SILVA - Naugatuck, CT - Midfield
Silva is a talented midfielder from Naugatuck High School. He was named varsity captain as a junior and was selected as the NVL's top senior and also Suburban Player of the Year by CO Sports Academy. Silva was named to the All-NVL team as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was also named to the All-State team as a junior and senior and earned All-New England honors as a senior.
"Ygor is an exceptionally talented midfielder. He has great technical skills, vision and work-rate as a player. He is a player who will fit in well with our attacking style of play. I expect Ygor to contribute immediately to our program. The outstanding coaching he has received from Art Nunes at Naugatuck High School will provided him a platform to excel at the NCAA Division I level at CCSU."-Head Coach Shaun Green.
DANIEL LOBELLO - Marlborough, CT - Defense
Lobello is a talented defender from RHAM High School and plays for Oakwood Soccer Club in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Lobello is a member of the National Honors Society and graduated in the top 10% of his class. His brother, Anthony, plays for the University of Hartford.
"Daniel is an excellent defender who will add immediate depth to our defensive unit.
He was had great coaches at Oakwood Soccer Club, so he will come to the Blue Devils highly prepared for Division I soccer. He will be joining former Oakwood players Ryan Taylor and Carson D' Ambrosio. We expect Daniel to develop in our environment and challenge for playing time. We are looking forward to seeing Dan in a Blue Devils jersey."-Head Coach Shaun Green.
