Men's Soccer Players Win USL's PDL Conference Title
Knight, Walmsley and Abele shine for Ocala
Three Central Connecticut men's soccer players helped their United Soccer League - Premier Development League team claim their conference championship on Sunday. Juniors Ben Knight and Josef Abele as well as senior Stephen Walmsley are currently playing for the Ocala Stampede in the PDL.
The Stampede defeated defending conference champion Austin Aztex 2-0 on Sunday in front of over 2,000 fans in Austin, TX to claim the Southern Conference Championship.
The conference championship is the first for the Stampede, who now advance to the final four of the PDL after winning the Southern Conference.
Knight has seen action in all 13 games this season for the Stampede and has one assist. He has played in over 1,100 minutes of action helping to lead his team to the conference title.
Walmsley was a Second Team All-Conference pick for the Blue Devils as a junior in 2013, helping to lead the team to the regular season Northeast Conference Championship. This summer he has played in 10 games for the Stampede and played over 700 minutes.
Abele has seen action in one game this summer. He was also a Second Team All-Conference pick in 2013 after posting a 6-1 record in league play to go along with seven shutouts.
The Blue Devils report to preseason camp on Thursday, August 15, and open the 2014 season at home on Friday night, August 29 hosting Stony Brook at 7 p.m. See the FULL SCHEDULE HERE.
