Junior Freddy Metellus scored his first goal of the season in the second half to lift the Blue Devils to victory. Senior Stephen Walmsley picked up the assist, his first helper of the season. With the game scoreless at 52:23, Walmsley dished to Metellus at midfield with a stellar feed, then Metellus tipped the ball to himself near the outside of the goalkeeper box. He gathered and beat the Stony Brook keeper to the lower left side for the game's only score.
Senior goalkeeper Josef Abele earned the victory in net for the Blue Devils recording his first shutout of the season. He made three saves, including one on a free kick that then hit off the cross bar on the best scoring chance of the game for the visitors. Abele is coming off of a seven shutout season a year ago.
Central, the Northeast Conference regular season champions a year ago, outshot the Seawolves 13-8 in the match. Stony Brook had an 8-3 edge in corners. Tom McMahon made five saves in net for the visitors, but falls to 0-1 on the year.
