Men's Soccer Sets 2014 Schedule
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team will open its season on Aug. 29 at the CCSU Soccer Field against Stony Brook.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team has announced its schedule for the 2014 season. Head coach Shaun Green will lead his squad through a challenging 17 match slate that features an exciting non-conference schedule leading up to Northeast Conference play.
"We are excited about this year's schedule. It will provide outstanding competition to prepare us for the Northeast Conference slate," Green said on Thursday morning. "We will be tested early on with a game versus Penn who were last year's Ivy League champions and also Navy who won the Patriot league and finished the season ranked in the national top-25. Additional games versus Hartford, Yale, Stony Brook, Army, Vermont and Dartmouth will also be great for our program."
Green will open his 30th season at the helm of the Blue Devils at home on August 29 against Stony Brook. The Blue Devils will open the season at 7 p.m. on the CCSU Soccer Field.
CCSU's next two games will be against 2013 NCAA Tournament participants in Penn and Navy. The Blue Devils will visit Penn on September 7 and then host Navy on September 13.
The Blue Devils will play six of their next seven matches on the road with stops at UMass Lowell (9/16), Yale (9/21) and Army (9/23).
A home contest against the University of Vermont on September 28 will break up the road stretch.
Trips to Hartford (10/1), Dartmouth (10/7) and the NEC opener at LIU Brooklyn (10/10) will follow the Vermont match.
Intrastate rival Sacred Heart will visit New Britain on October 12 with NEC foe Fairleigh Dickinson coming to campus on Oct. 18. In between the Blue Devils will host NJIT in the final non-conference tilt of the season.
A three match road swing kicks off with defending NEC champs St. Francis Brooklyn on Oct. 24 and closes with a trip to Robert Morris (10/31) and Saint Francis U (11/2).
The regular season closes with the Blue Devils hosting Bryant on Nov. 9.
The NEC Tournament will be played on the home field of the regular season champion and will take place Nov. 14 and 16. The top-four regular season finishers will qualify for the tournament, which will be single-elimination.
