Volleyball Tops Providence, 3-1
The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated Providence in four sets on Saturday morning. The Blue Devils and Friars opened the second fay of the Big Green Invitational with a 9:30 a.m. match. CCSU (4-5) dropped the first set, but rallied to win the next three and take the contest from the Friars (5-6).
After dropping the opening set 28-26, the Blue Devils rebounded to win 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18.
The CCSU attack was led by senior Veronika Ban who registered a team-high 14 kills. Freshman Cassidy Stankowski (12) and sophomore Heather Trueman (10) also posted double-digit kills.
In addition to posting a high number of kills, Ban also hit at a .464 clip with 14 kills on 28 attacks and just one attack error.
Sophomore Makenna Lommori posted 37 assists and also contributed four kills.
Stankowski and Trueman were also active on defense with 10 and 15 digs, respectively.
As a team CCSU recorded 19 blocks with Trueman again leading the squad. She recorded the teams only solo block and contributed on four addition blocks. Senior Rachel Dunlap was also a leader at the net with five assisted blocks.
The Blue Devils will play Manhattan College later today to finish the tournament.
