Swimming & Diving Gets Past LIU Post, 151-96
The Blue Devils travel to New Hampshire next weekend.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team got past LIU Post, 151-96, on Saturday at the Jack Suydam Natatorium. Senior Christine Rasile won a pair of individual events and the Blue Devils would win 12 of the scored events on the day.
CCSU opened the day by winning the 200 yard medley relay. The team of freshman Alexis Fredricks, junior Maddy Garber, senior Sabree Thomas and junior Lauren Czulewicz turned in a time of 1:48.87 to narrowly edge the other CCSU 'B' relay. The team of sophomore Kaitlyn Troy, freshman Erika Maercklein, senior Lisa Ward and senior Christine Rasile finished in 1:48.96.
Rasile won her first of two events on the day, taking the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.30. Freshman Valentina Gomez took third in 1:58.93 and sophomore Grace Moriarty was fourth at 2:05.86.
Rasile also took the 100 yard freestyle, turning in a time of 53.43.
Gomez took the win in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.57, outdistancing the next finisher by almost six seconds.
Central finished 1-2 in the 100 yard breaststroke. Maercklein finished in 1:05.76 to win the event and was followed by freshman Grace Regan who finished in 1:08.59. Freshman Keelin Kendall was fourth at 1:09.73.
In the 200 yard butterfly, Thomas turned in a time of 2:11.00 to win the event. Ward was just behind at 2:11.66 and freshman Katelyn Mann finished in 2:20.40 to round out the CCSU trio.
Ward would win the 100 yard butterfly, turning in a time of 59.74.
Lauren Czulewicz won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.99. Freshman Grace Fredricks placed fourth with a time of 26.21. Sophomore Victoria Poole rounded out the field with a time of 26.55.
Sophomore Aidan Devers won the 200 yard backstroke in 2:05.67, while classmate Kailey Demers won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.45.
Garber claimed an individual victory in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:40.85, easily beating out the second-place finisher.
Alexis Fredricks placed second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.70, edging out teammates Troy (1:01.90) and junior Maeve Awiszus (1:02.05).
Sophomore Mollie Coleman finished third in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:17.19. Freshman Ivy Milne took fourth at 11:36.95 and was followed by junior Luna Milne at 12:00.68.
In the 1-meter diving event, junior Annemarie Durham scored 222.35. Freshmen Kirsten Bednarz (181.65) and Lauren Acey (175.90) rounded out the CCSU divers. In the 3-meter event, Durham scored 230.00, while Bednarz scored 184.50 and Acey ha 145.05.
Central would close out the day with a win in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The 'A' team of Maercklein, Alexis Fredricks, Rasile and Lauren Czulewicz finished in 3:37.03 to give CCSU the win.
The Blue Devils travel to New Hampshire on Oct. 28 and 29.
