Swimming and Diving Opens Season at St. Bonaventure, Fall 181.5 to 171.5
The Blue Devils host LIU Post on Oct. 22.
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team opened up its season at St. Bonaventure, completing the second day of competition on Saturday. The Bonnies outscored the Blue Devils, 181.5-171.5.
Central won the 200 yard medley relay. The team of freshman Alexis Fredricks, junior Maddy Garber, senior Sabree Thomas and freshman Erika Maercklein turned in a time of 1:48.70. The team of freshmen Keelin Kendall, Grace Regan and sophomores Mollie Coleman and Tori Poole placed third with a time of 1:53.31.
Junior Lauren Czulewicz won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53:59. Freshman Grace Fredricks turned in a time of 56:38 to place fifth.
Sophomore Aidan Devers and Alexis Fredricks placed 1-2 in the 200 yard backstroke. Devers won with a time of 2:06.15, while Fredericks turned in a time of 2:06.66. Kendall placed fifth with a time of 2:09.91.
Freshman Valentina Gomez won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.01. Devers placed third with a time of 5:20.14, and Regan placed fourth with a time of 5:20.80.
Garber won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.55. Kendall was fourth at 2:30.99 and Regan took fifth with a time of 2:31.38.
Senior Lisa Ward placed third in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:02.74. Classmate Stephanie Czulewicz was just behind at 1:03.25 and freshman Katelyn Mann placed fifth at 1:03.51.
Ward took third in the 100 yard butterfly. She turned in a time of 1:00.28. Thomas placed fourth, turning in a time 1:00.46.
The team of Maercklein, Gomez, Lauren Czulewicz and Alexis Fredricks placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.78. The team of junior Maeve Awiszus, senior Julia St. Pierre, sophomore Victoria Poole and Grace Fredricks placed third with a time of 3:45.88.
Junior Annemarie Durham was second in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 209.85. Freshman Kirsten Bednarz placed fifth and scored 170.55.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 22, at home against LIU Post.
