CCSU Tops Sacred Heart, Sets 12 Pool Records in 209-72 Victory
Blue Devils will host LIU Brooklyn next Saturday
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team broke 12 pool record on its way to a 209-72 win on the road at Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils won 14 of the 15 events on their way to the victory. They'll return home next Saturday, hosting LIU Brooklyn in New Britain.
The Blue Devils began the day with a 1-2 finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of freshman Alexis Fredricks, junior Maddy Garber, sophomore Tori Poole and senior Christine Rasile placed first in a time of 1:48.29. Sophomore Katelyn Troy, senior Lisa Ward, senior Sabree Thomas and junior Lauren Czulewicz were second in 1:49.13.
Freshman Grace Regan finished first in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:50.26. Sophomore Grace Moriarity was third in a time of 11:16.92.
Freshman Erika Maercklein won the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.34. Junior Maeve Awiszus was third in 1:56.22.
Sophomore Aidan Devers won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 59.62, just ahead of Troy (59.85) and senior Stephanie Czulewicz (1:00.36) as the Blue Devils finished 1-2-3.
Garber won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.90. Ward was second in 1:06.19.
Freshman Valentina Gomez won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:09.75. Junior Luna Milne was third in 2:21.75.
Rasile won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 24.22.
Junior Annemarie Durham continued to impress and won the 1 meter diving event with a score of 268.57. Freshman Kirsten Bednarz was second with a score of 204.72.
Alexis Fredricks was first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.72. Stehpanie Czulewicz was second in 2:11.05 and sophomore Kailey Demers was third in 2:12.28.
Ward won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:25.31. Freshman Keelin Kendall was second in a time of 2:31.76 and freshman Katelyn Mann was third in 2:33.58.
Devers won the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:08.23, finishing ahead of freshman Grace Fredricks who came in in 5:36.33.
Alexis Fredricks won the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.61, ahead of Gomez (1:01.12) and Poole (1:02.29).
Kendall won the 400 yard IM in a time of 4:45.44. Stephanie Czulewicz was second in 4:45.46 and Regan was third in 4:45.48.
The Blue Devils won the 800 yard freestyle relay to cap the day, as Awiszus, Thomas, Devers and Lauren Czulewicz posted a time of 7:55.36.
