Friedmann Wins 500 Free, Blue Devils in Fifth at ECACs
Freshman Taylor Friedmann won the 500 freestyle as Central Connecticut State University competed in the first day of competition at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday. Friedmann recorded a time of 4:56.81 to earn gold medalist honors in the event. The Blue Devils are in fifth place out of 18 scoring teams after one day of action in Pittsburgh, PA.

CCSU currently has 81 points, while Harvard leads the way with 213.5 total points. The Blue Devil 400 medley relay team of Friedmann, sophomores Alex Czaplicki and Kristen Malski, as well as freshman Hannah Packer recorded the second best finish on the day, placing fifth with a time of 3:55.96.
Czaplicki and senior Kandra Kane joined Friedmann in the 500 free. Czaplicki took 11th place in the event, touching in at 5:04.75. Kane finished in between the other two Blue Devils swimmers, recording a time of 5:00.33 to place sixth. Sophomore Madison Vestergaard placed 11th in the one-meter dive to add to the CCSU point total.
Malski, along with junior Alyssa Carlucci and freshmen Lauren O'Kelly and Lauren Shortell, placed 13th in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:42.13. The Blue Devils will continue with the second day of competition tomorrow in Pittsburgh.
