Women's Lacrosse Offense Explodes in Home Victory Over Saint Mary's
Livingston picks up her first win as a head coach on Friday
Senior Jessica Giangarra scored a career-high six goals and head coach Princess Livingston picked up her first career victory as the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team topped visiting Saint Mary's on Friday, 21-12.
The 21 goals for the Blue Devils are just two off the school record, and the most in a single game since they scored 22 in a 22-7 win over Howard on Mar. 29, 2014.
Sophomore Jackie Branthover earned her first victory of the season in goal, posting 11 saves, as the Blue Devils move to 1-4 on the season. They'll play again on the road on Wednesday, Mar. 15, at American at 1 p.m.
Giangarra was one of six Blue Devils who scored multiple goals in the game.
Central led 9-6 at halftime, and exploded for 12 second half goals to claim the victory. Following halftime the Blue Devils took a 14-8 lead on the first goal of the season for sophomore Jenna Henningsen. Saint Mary's answered, however, with three straight goals to cut the lead to 14-11 with 9:46 to play.
It was then that the Blue Devils, on both sides of the ball, took over. They scored three straight goals, including two from freshman Cameron Ruberti, to push the lead to 17-11. Following a Saint Mary's goal, the Blue Devils scored the final four goals of the game, and seven of the final eight, including a pair from junior Kylie Sullivan.
Sullivan finished with two goals and three assists. Ruberti had three goals and an assist. Freshman Megan Szawlowski added two goals and three assists and freshman Morgan Sinton had four goals and a pair of assists. Giangarra had six goals to lead all scorers, while adding one assist.
