Women's Lacrosse Drops 18-11 Home Decision to Wagner on Friday
Soto's four goals lead Blue Devil offense
Senior Marissa Soto scored four times and added an assist but the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-11 home decision to Wagner on Friday afternoon on Arute Field. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 3-12 overall on the season and 2-4 in Northeast Conference play. Wagner is 6-10 overall and 4-2 in the league with the win.
The Seahawks took a 4-1 lead with 19:31 left in the first half before the Blue Devils scored three straight to tie the game, 4-4 with 6:08 on the clock. Freshman Morgan Sinton scored twice during the run and Soto added her first of the game.
Wagner answered and scored the final five goals before halftime to build a 9-4 lead at the break.
After Central scored the first two goals of the second half, Wagner answered with six straight to push the lead to 15-6 with 17:33 to play.
Soto scored twice and freshman Cameron Ruberti scored once as a quick three-goal spurt for CCSU cut the lead to 15-9. They would get no closer than six goals the rest of the way as the Seahawks held on for their fourth league win of the season.
Soto had four goals to give her 46 on the season. Ruberti scored twice and added an assist while Sinton added two goals and two assists.
Sophomore Jackie Branthover had 12 saves in net for the Blue Devils.
Wagner was led by Anna Belle Reilly who had four goals and two assists. Heidi Colford added three goals and three assists in the win.
Central will end the regular season on Sunday, hosting Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m. Prior to the game the Blue Devils will honor their senior class.
