Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Bryant on Friday
Blue Devils are now 1-2 in NEC play this season
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to 1-2 in Northeast Conference play with a 19-5 road loss at league-leader Bryant University on Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 2-10 overall. Bryant improves to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the league with the win.
Central will be back in action next week when they travel to Robert Morris on Friday, April 21 at 3 p.m. and then on Sunday, April 23, at St. Francis University at 12 noon.
The Bulldogs took a 13-2 lead at halftime including five goals from Caitlin Breglia. The Blue Devils were led by a pair of goals from senior Marissa Soto.
Soto would score her third goal of the game in the second half. Freshmen Cameron Ruberti and Megan Szawlowski each scored a second half goal. Szawlowski added an assist. She now leads the team in scoring this season with 21 goals and 20 assists. Soto is the team-leader in goals with 33 and now has 90 career points.
Bryant's Beglia led all scorers with her five goals and pair of assists. Four other players had two goals in the win.
Sophomore Jackie Branthover made 11 saves in goal for the Blue Devils in the loss. It marked the third time in four games that she has posted 11 or more saves. She has eight double-figure save games this season, and 127 saves on the year.
