Softball Falls to LSU in Regional
The Central Connecticut softball team's historic season came to an end with a 11-0 loss to LSU.
After a stellar season full of a multitude of broken records, the Central Connecticut softball team ended its season Saturday in game five of the NCAA Regional tournament in Baton Rouge, LA against LSU. The Blue Devils fell by a score of 11-0 in the match-up for their second loss in the double-elimination tournament. The first loss of the weekend also came against LSU in a close 3-2 game on Friday.

The Blue Devils (36-15, 16-4 NEC) advanced to the fifth game of the tournament after topping Northwestern State by a score of 9-1 on Saturday afternoon. CCSU's 36 wins surpasses the previous season record by five.
Sophomore Laura Messina pitched her third NCAA Tournament game after a record-breaking season of her own. After just two seasons as a Blue Devil, she owns four career pitching records and ranks in the top five in six out of seven categories. Messina was relieved on the mound by senior Jordan Tingley in the top of the sixth inning for her eighth appearance of the season. She pitched two-thirds of an inning and picked up a strike out.
Messina received a standing ovation from the crowd at Tiger Park on her departure from the field.
The Tigers opened the game with a four run lead in the top of the first inning, an inning that included two Blue Devil errors. They continued to score seven more runs and left the Blue Devils scoreless after six innings of play.
Junior Arielle Bruno singled to open the bottom of the first, but she was quickly erased on a ground out and from that point the Blue Devils were held hitless until sophomore Kat Malcolm singled with two outs in the sixth inning.
LSU's Ashley Czechner tossed six scoreless innings and limited CCSU to just two hits while striking out nine. She is 2-0 in the regional so far.
Messina allowed 11 runs on 11 hits and falls to 28-11 on the season with the loss.
