Softball Breaks Win Record for 3rd-Straight Season
The Blue Devils reached 32 season wins in a sweep of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday.
For the third-consecutive season, the Central Connecticut softball team set the record for the most wins in a single season in CCSU history. The Blue Devils ended the regular season with a sweep of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday, winning game one by a score of 2-0 and exploding in the second game, taking the 10-1 win in five innings.
In Head Coach Jeff Franquet's second season at CCSU in 2011, the Blue Devils won 29 games. The squad followed it up with 31 wins in 2012. After today's sweep against UMES, Central posts 32 wins with the opportunity to add to it as they head into the conference tournament.
Sophomore Laura Messina, who is currently ranked fourth in the nation in shutouts, earned her 12th of the season in game one. With the win, Messina's record improves to 24-9 on the season. Senior Jordan Tingley pitched game two for her seventh appearance this season. She gave up only one run in the win.
The Blue Devils have clinched an NEC Tournament berth with a 16-4 conference record and will head into the tournament on May 9-11 with at least a share of the regular season title.
Statistics and complete box scores from Wednesday's doubleheader will be available on Thursday.
