Mendelson Tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week
Brittany Mendelson's runner-up performance earns her NEC weekly honors.
Brittany Mendelson of the Central Connecticut women's cross country team earned Northeast Conference recognition after her performance this past weekend (Aug. 30) at the Marist Invitational, the league announced Wednesday. Mendelson finished second at the event and her effort tabbed her this week's NEC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
Mendelson made a statement in her cross country debut for the Blue Devils with her runner-up mark. The Southbury, CT native finished the 5,000 meter race in 18:41.94 and was the only Blue Devil to finish in the top 15.
The freshman helped lead the Blue Devils to a third place finish out of four teams at the meet. The other teams included Marist, Iona and Vassar College.
The Blue Devils are set to return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when Central travels to Iona to compete in the Iona Br. Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, NY. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
