Women's XC Finishes Third At Marist Invitational; Mendelson Second
Brittany Mendelson finished second at the Marist Invitational on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team opened its 2014 season at the Marist Invitational on Saturday at Vassar Farm. The Blue Devils finished third out of four teams at the event. Sophomore Brittany Mendelson led the Blue Devils with a top ten finish. She had a time of 18:41.94 in the 5K race to claim 2nd place overall.
Senior Shannon McBride crossed second for the Blue Devils, she finished in 17th place with a time of 19:59.98. Freshman Victoria Cronin made her CCSU cross country debut and claimed 27th place with a time of 20:51.10 for the Blue Devils. Junior Jazmin Booker crossed the finish line next for the Blue Devils in 33rd place with a time of 20:59.81.
Rounding out the scoring for Central was Freshman Kathleen Wysocki who finished 40th overall, crossing the finish line at 21:32.50 in her first career race as a Blue Devils. Freshman Taylor LePage also made her CCSU cross country debut with a 44th place finish and was the sixth representative for Central with her time of 21:58.12. Sophomore Paxton McNierney completed the race with a time of 22:54.15, which was good for a 50th place finish.
Marist won the meet with an average time of 18:59.64 and 22 points. Iona finished second with a score of 44 points and an average time of 19:28.94. CCSU finished third with a score of 83 points and an average time of 20:25.07. Vassar College finished fourth with 98 points and an average time of 20:52.02.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Sep. 20 when they compete in the Iona Br. Doyle Meet of Champions in the Bronx, NY. The starting shot gun for the men's race is scheduled to go off at 9:30 a.m.
