Women's Cross Country Finishes 11th at Iona
The Blue Devils will host the Ted Own Invitational next Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished 11th out of 20 teams at the 20th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions on Saturday. The 6k race was held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, New York and featured 163 competitors. Seniors Krisztina Dearborn and Elizabeth Eberhardt paced the Blue Devils with 35th and 36th place finishes and respective times of 23:36 and 23:40.
Seven runners competed for the Blue Devils in the race. Behind the duo of Dearborn and Eberhardt was junior Ally Gates who finished 62nd overall with a time of 22:34. Following Gates was senior Shannon McBride with a 66th place finish and a time of 24:46. Freshman Victoria Cronin crossed the finish line fifth and rounded out the scoring for the Blue Devils with an 88th place finish and time of 25:55.
Junior Jazmin Booker and Senior Taylor LePage also competed for the Blue Devils and finished in 101st and 110 place respectively. Booker crossed the finish line with a time of 26:46 and LePage finished at the 27:19 mark.
CCSU finished in 11th place with 287 total points. Brown claimed first place of the meet with 38 points followed by Yale (86), Princeton (141), Edinboro (167), and Kent State (170) to round out the top-five.
Buffalo (181), Albany (203), Army (209), Fordham (218), and Yougstown St. (269) finished in the next five slots to round out the top-ten. CCSU finished 11th with 287 total points followed by Binghamton (288), Indiana Pa. (306), IPFW (366), and St. John's (433).
Rounding out the team scores were host Iona (444), Hofstra (501), NYIT 519), Monroe College (548), and St. Francis N.Y. (557).
The Blue Devils will return home for their next meet when they host the 12th Annual Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday, September 27. The starting shot gun for the women's race is scheduled to go off at 11 a.m.
