Women's XC Fifth, Eberhardt Seventh at CCSU Mini Meet
The women's cross country team finished in fifth at the CCSU Mini Meet behind a strong performance from senior Elizabeth Eberhardt.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished in fifth place in the women's varsity race at the 12th Annual CCSU Mini Meet on Friday afternoon. CCSU played host for the afternoon as the meet took place at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The women's 3K varsity race featured 20 teams and 129 competitors. Senior Elizabeth Eberhardt led the way for CCSU with a seventh place overall finish and a time of 10:19.34.
Seven runners competed for the Blue Devils in the meet. Eberhardt's seventh place finish came on a 5:33 pace. Crossing the finish line second for the Blue Devils was junior Ally Gates in 36th place with a time of 10:52.96. Right behind her was senior Shannon McBride in 38th place with a time of 10:53.94.
Rounding out the scoring for CCSU was junior Jazmin Booker and senior Taylor LePage. Booker finished in 59th place with a time of 11:08.83 and Lepage finished in 76th place with a time of 11:25.73.
Two other runners also competed for the Blue Devils in the meet. Freshmen Victoria Cronin and Kathleen Wysocki finished in 90th and 96th place respectively. Cronin crossed the finish line with a time of 11:37.21 and Wysocki finished with a time of 11:42.36.
Central Connecticut scored 216 points to earn its fifth place finish. The Blue Devils finished with an average team time of 10:56.16.
Sophomore Paxton McNierney competed in the women's sub-varsity race prior to the varsity race and finished 55th overall with a time of 12:05.56.
Boston College earned the victory at the CCSU Mini Meet followed by Providence, Yale and New Hampshire. Central was fifth, but was the first team to represent the Northeast Conference. Other teams from the NEC were Bryant (8th), Wagner (11th), Fairleigh Dickinson (19th) and Sacred Heart (20th).
The Blue Devils will return to action on Nov. 1 when they compete in the Northeast Conference Championships. The race is being hosted by the Blue Devils at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
