Sousa Named All-New England
Senior captain Tori Sousa was named to the NEWISA All-New England second team.
NEC Women's Soccer Player of the Year, Tori Sousa, of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named to the 2014 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England second team on Friday. The forward was recognized on the second team amongst the best Division I women's soccer players in New England for the 2014 season.
Sousa capped off her senior campaign by being named the Northeast Conference Player of the Year. She is the eighth Blue Devil in program history to be named NEC Player of the Year and the first since Leah Blayney (2009). The Nashua, NH native led the Blue Devils in goals (7) and points (20) and held a share of the lead in assists (6) and game-winning-goals (2) for the 2014 season. In addition to her Player of the Year honors, Sousa was also named to the First Team All-Conference and the NEC All-Tournament Team for a second-straight season.
The senior captain helped lead the Blue Devils to back-to-back NEC tournament appearances in her two seasons at CCSU after transferring from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and led Central to its eighth NEC Championship title in program history this season.
Sousa had an exceptional and consistent senior season as she played in every game for the Blue Devils, making 20 starts, and recorded a point in 10 of the 21 games she played in. Her season was highlighted by a two-goal performance in the NEC Semifinal match against Wagner on November 7, which included the game-winner in double overtime to send the Blue Devils to the NEC Championship match.
