CCSU and Maine Play to 3-3 Draw
Halligan posts a goal and an assist on Friday night
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team played to a 3-3 double overtime draw on Friday night at home vs. the University of Maine. The draw moves Central's unbeaten streak to three games. They are now 3-3-2 overall on the season. Maine is 2-5-1 with the draw.
Central got on the board first on the first goal of the season from senior Danica Foglio. Foglio scored at 14:59 on a corner from sophomore teammate Kelly Halligan to give the Blue Devils the 1-0 lead.
Maine answered in the first half on the first goal of the season from Jordan Pellerin. Pellerin took a pass from Ashley Robinson, gathered the ball near the top of the box, and then beat Central keeper Nicki Turley to even the match.
The Blue Devils took a brief 2-1 lead with 26 minutes to play in the second half on the second goal of the season from Halligan. Following a Maine hand ball just outside the box, Halligan took a free kick and beat the Maine keeper to the lower left corner.
Maine wasted little time answering the goal by the Blue Devils, and would take the lead with back-to-back goals from Charlene Achielle. Achielle's first came on a feed from the left side of the field, and tied the game. The second goal, which came less than four minutes later, gave the Black Bears their first lead of the game.
Central tied the score 3-3 with under nine minutes to play in the second half. Senior Tori Sousa scored her second goal of the season off a feed from junior Cailynn Harding and sophomore Kristine Kelly.
Turley made three saves in goal for the Blue Devils to run her record to 3-3-2 on the season. The Blue Devils held a slight 14-13 edge in shots, with six of them coming on goal. Maine also had six shots on goal.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday afternoon at home hosting Fairfield beginning at 3 p.m.
