Women's Soccer Edged By St. John's 2-0
The Blue Devils return home to face UCONN on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell in a 2-0 decision to the St. John's Red Storm on Sunday in Queens, NY. St. John's improves to 3-1-0 on the season, while the Blue Devils drop to 1-2-1. CCSU was outshot by the Red Storm 19-6 in the match.
The Blue Devils were unable to muster an offensive attack against the St. John's defense. The Blue Devils recorded six total shots with only one of them being on goal. Senior Tori Sousa led the Blue Devils with two shots and the lone shot on goal. Christina Boucher finished with two shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nicki Turley took the loss in net. She finished the match with two goals allowed and four saves. The St. John's goal in the 44th minute snapped a streak of 244 straight minutes Turley had played without allowing a goal.
The Red Storm scored with less then a minute before halftime on a deflected ball off of a CCSU defender that left St. John's Shea Connors an open net opportunity. SJU added to their lead in the second half in the 68th minute and made it 2-0 when Rachel Daly found the back of the net in a one vs. one situation with Turley.
The Blue Devils will return to action this Friday when they host the University of Connecticut on the CCSU Soccer Field at 7 p.m. CCSU lost to UCONN last year 3-0 on the road and will look for redemption against their intra-state opponent on home turf.
