Sousa Lifts Blue Devils Over Knights
Tori Sousa scores in the 57th minute and the Blue Devils defeat FDU 1-0.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team improved to 5-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Northeast Conference play after defeating the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights by a score of 1-0 Friday night. Senior captain Tori Sousa scored in the 57th minute to lift the Blue Devils to victory. The Knights drop to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the NEC.
Sousa recorded her fourth goal of the season at the 57:00 mark to give the Blue Devils the 1-0 advantage. Freshman defender Brianna Scaldaferri played a long through ball that found Sousa onside and inside the 18-yard box. Sousa took a touch and then beat the keeper into the lower left corner of the goal.
The Blue Devils outshot the Knights 13-10 and had six shots on goal compared to FDU's four. Each team also compiled six corner kick opportunities a piece.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nicki Turley picked up the victory in goal for the Blue Devils as she recorded her third complete game shutout of the season. She also has two combined shutouts on the year. The net-minder finished the game with four saves and improves her record to 5-4-3.
The Blue Devils will return to action this coming Monday when they host Yale on the CCSU Soccer Field. The match is set to kickoff beginning at 7 p.m. Fans who are not in attendance can watch live, for free, on NECFrontRow.com.
