Szawlowski Named NEC Rookie of the Week for Second Time
Freshman is the leading scorer for the Blue Devils this season
Freshman Megan Szawloski was named the Northeast Conference women's lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. Szawlowski and the Blue Devils started the NEC season 1-1 with a one goal loss on the road at Sacred Heart and a home win over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday.
Szawlowski, the leading point scorer for the Blue Devils this season, continue her production this week, leading the Blue Devils to a 1-1 week in Northeast Conference play. Szawlowski totalled six goals and four assists on the week.
She began the week with a pair of goals and an assist in an 8-7 setback at Sacred Heart on Friday. She added a ground ball and five draw controls in the game. On Sunday, she took her game to another level.
The rookie scored four times and added three assists as the Blue Devils topped LIU Brooklyn 13-12 at home. She added a career-high eight draw controls and a ground ball in the victory. Her draw controls helped the Blue Devils set the pace with a 10-3 halftime lead. She scored four times before halftime, including once with 25 seconds on the clock before the break. In the second half it was her assist to teammate Marissa Soto with 1:53 to play that broke and 12-12 tie and sealed the win for the Blue Devils.
She leads the team in scoring this season with 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) and assists (19), as well as draw controls (35).
