Women's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Fairfield

The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-4 home decision in their final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday vs. Fairfield.  With the loss the Blue Devils are 1-8 overall on the season.  They will open Northeast Conference play on the road on April 7 at Sacred Heart.

Senior Marissa Soto led the offense for the Blue Devils with a pair of goals to up her team-high season total to 21 goals on the season.  Sophomore Jenna Henningsen added a goal and an assist in the loss, as did freshman Morgan Sinton.

Central started the scoring on the first goal of the game by Soto to take a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the first half.  The Stags responded, however, and held the Blue Devils scoreless for the rest of the half and took a 9-1 lead at the break.

The lead reached 12-1 before Henningsen began a run of three-straight Blue Devil goals which cut the lead to 12-4.  Central held Fairfield scoreless over the final 23:32 of the game.

Sophomore Jackie Branthover made 14 saves in goal for the Blue Devils her sixth game this season with 10 or more saves.  Her 53.8 save percentage (14 saves on 26 shots) was her second-highest total of the season.  

Taylor Mitchell and Scarlett Sulliman each scored three times for the Stags.  Fairfield held a 34-19 edge in total shots in the game.

The Blue Devils return to action again on April 7 as they open NEC play on the road at Sacred Heart at 3 p.m.
