Soto Scores Three Times, Blue Devils Drop Decision at Iona
The Blue Devils will be back in action at home on March 1 vs. Army
Senior Marissa Soto scored three times but the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 decision on the road at Iona on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 0-2 on the season. They return to action next Wednesday, March 1, at home vs. Army at 1 p.m.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Branthover posted a career-high 19 saves in the loss. It's the seventh time in her career that she has registered 10 or more saves in a game.
Soto's three goals mark the fifth time in the last two seasons that she has multiple goals in a game. She now has 12 multiple-goal games in her career.
Junior Kylie Sullivan had three assists in the game for the Blue Devils. She now has three goals and four assists in the first two games of the season.
The Blue Devils trailed 7-2 at the half, and managed four second half goals, but the Gaels picked up their second victory of the season and moved to 2-1 on the season.
Freshman Megan Szawlowski, freshman Morgan Sinton and senior Jessica Giangarra each added a goal in the loss for the Blue Devils. Senior Courtney McPartland notched an assist and caused three turnovers.
The Blue Devils return to action at home on Wednesday, March 1, beginning at 1 p.m. vs. Army. It marks the home opener for the Blue Devils and the first of three straight home games. Fans can watch the action live on NECFrontRow.com.
