Marissa Soto Named Northeast Conference Player of the Week
Senior leads the league with 42 goals this season
Senior Marissa Soto, the league-leader in goals this season with 42, was named the Northeast Conference women's lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday. Soto led the Blue Devils to a 1-1 record a week ago, and in the process became the 11th player in school history to record 100 career points.
Soto was key figure in Central Connecticut's offensive outburst over the weekend as the Blue Devils went 1-1 on their swing through western Pennsylvania.
She scored nine goals and added two assists to keep CCSU's playoff hopes alive. The senior started on Friday with three goals and an assist in a 14-13 loss against then first-place Robert Morris, which was undefeated in NEC play at the time.
She followed with a season-high tying six goals and an assist in CCSU's 18-13 win over Saint Francis U on Sunday. Soto scored three goals in the first half, which helped the Blue Devils begin to pull away from the Red Flash.
The senior has tallied 21 goals in five NEC games this year and has 42 overall, which leads the NEC. Her 42 goals is the third-highest single season goal total in school history.
The Blue Devils play their final two regular season games at home this week, hosting Wagner on Friday at 4 p.m. and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at noon.
