Women's Basketball Loses Close Matchup
The Blue Devils fell 55-54 to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team lost another close matchup, this time against Fairleigh Dickinson, by a score of 55-54 on Saturday at Detrick Gymnasium. CCSU was hot early, scoring 23 points in the first quarter, but significantly slowed down after. The Blue Devils move to 1-2 on the season (1-2 NEC), while Fairleigh Dickinson captures its first win in the NEC, moving to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the NEC.
Emma McCamus led the team in scoring for the second time this season, putting up 14 points on 6-16 shooting. Ashley Berube was also in double figures, scoring 11 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Sophomore Dejah Jenkins provided a spark off the bench, scoring 8 points and going 2-2 from downtown.
The Blue Devils shot under 40% from the floor for the first time this season, and put up a season low 54 points. The team also only got to the free throw line 6 times, making 4.
Fairleigh Dickinson had 10 different players score in the game. The team was led by Sierra DeAngleo, who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blue Devils have now lost back to back games.

The Blue Devils picked up where they left off from the last two games, scoring with ease in the first quarter. The team put up 23 points and shot a fantastic 10-14 from the floor.

CCSU maintained the lead throughout the majority of the second quarter, until FDU made a late charge. The Knights ended on a 7-0 run, including a jump shot from Madison Stanley just before the half ended to tie the score at 34.

Both teams picked it up on the defensive end in the second half. The Blue Devils were held to a season low 8 points in the third quarter, going 3-16 from the floor and 0-6 from three.

CCSU trailed by 1 with under a minute to play, when Ashley Forker forced a huge steal and dished it off to Jamey Napoleon who gave the Blue Devils the lead with 38 seconds remaining.

FDU then scored the next possession, when Sierra DeAngelo made a jump shot off an offensive rebound.

Belle Lanpher had a chance to win the game, but couldn't connect on a tough layup as time expired.

Ashley Berube failed to record a double-double for the first time this season, but put up a solid 11 points on 5-11 shooting.

Dejah Jenkins scored a season high 8 points. She only logged 7 minutes of play, but made her presence felt.

Once again Ashley Forker was able to get everyone involved, dishing out a season high 8 assists and only had 2 turnovers on the night.

CCSU allowed 8 second chance points from the 14 offensive rebounds for FDU. The Blue Devils only had 2 second chance points.

The biggest lead of the game belonged to CCSU, who led by 11 early in the second quarter, but were unable to hang on to that lead.

The Blue Devils came into the game averagine 11.5 blocks per game (1st in the nation) but fell way short of that total, only collecting 2 blocks as a team.
