Women's Basketball Takes The Season Opener 87-72
Central Connecticut defeated St. Francis Brooklyn 87-72 on Monday evening.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team took its season opener at St. Francis Brooklyn, 87-72, on Monday in a Northeast Conference matchup at Daniel Lynch '38 Gymnasium. CCSU started hot, scoring 27 points in the first quarter and never looked back. The Blue Devils move to 1-0 on the season while St. Francis Brooklyn falls to 0-3.
Senior guard Emma McCamus was the star of the night, tying a career high 30 points. She was a sensational 11-14 from the floor, including 3-4 from three.
The Blue Devils scored 52 points in the paint, and outrebounded the Terriers 42-40.
St. Francis Brooklyn got a solid performance out of senior Ally Lassen, who scored 21 points. However, the team shot just 5-21 from three and committed 18 turnovers.
This marks the third straight win by 10 or more points for the Blue Devils, dating back to last season.

- Central got off to a quick start, including 7 straight points from Emma McCamus to start the game. The Blue Devils built a 16-8 lead with 5:29 left in the first quarter.
- St. Francis went on a 10-2 run late in the second quarter to cut the score to 36-34. However, the Blue Devils fought back and took a 43-38 lead into halftime.
- Ashley Berube started off hot in the third quarter, scoring two straight buckets to give CCSU a 47-40 lead.
- The Blue Devils got a huge play from Dejah Jenkins, who came up with a steal with 4:13 remaining in the game, which led to an Ashley Forker layup. CCSU took a 14 point lead, which was too much for the Terriers to overcome.

- Emma McCamus tied her career high 30 points. The first time she scored 30 came against Brown on Nov. 14, 2019.
- CCSU went 10-for-11 (90.9%) from the foul line.This is only the third time in the past two seasons the team shot over 90% .
- The Blue Devils collected 10 blocks on the night, including 5 from senior Ashley Berube. St. Francis Brooklyn was only able to block CCSU 3 times.
- CCSU was able to get up 75 field goal attempts, which was the same amount they took in their win against St. Francis Broolyn last season. CCSU finished 35-75 (46.7%) from the floor.
- Ashley Berube recorded a double double for the Blue Devils. She finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds in 27 minutes of play.
- Senior Ashley Forker was also in double figures, shooting an efficient 8-12 FG, and dished 5 assists.
- Freshman Belle Lanpher and Samantha Chadwick both scored their first career points. Lanpher ended with 3 points and Chadwick with 2 points.
UP NEXT
CCSU is back at it tomorrow against St. Francis Broolyn on the road at 4:00 p.m. This will be the final game between these two teams this season. The Blue Devils will be back at home on Dec. 19 to face Fairleigh Dickinson.
