Three Meet Weekend is Highlighted by a Fourth Place Finish at the UConn Northeast Challenge
The Central Connecticut men’s track and field had their best finish ever placing fourth at the UConn Northeast Challenge meet in Storrs, CT. On Friday, Yankarlos Diaz also represented the Blue Devils at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, NJ.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field had their best finish ever placing fourth at the UConn Northeast Challenge meet in Storrs, CT. The Blue Devils tallied 49 points and had their best finish in Storrs since they placed 5th in 2017 (40 points). Central finished in front of notable programs including Harvard, Northeastern, and Dartmouth. Four athletes represented CCSU at the Bison Open on Saturday. On Friday, Yankarlos Diaz also represented the Blue Devils at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, NJ.
TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
- Yankarlos Diaz placed sixth in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Larry Ellis Invitational with a time of 9:15.46.
- James Sullivan ran a 14:25.88 in the 1500m to place ninth at the Bison Open at Bucknell.
- Mark Rodriguez finished fourth in the 10k with a time of 30:52.81 at the Bison Open.
- Samuel Whittaker ran at his Alma Mater, Bucknell, and placed seventh in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.35. Jacob Ireland also ran for the Blue Devils in the 1500m at The Bison Open and notched a 15th-place finish (3:49.99).
- In Storrs, Edward Williams Jr placed second in the 110mH with a time of 14.14.
- The Blue Devils had two rookies finish in the top ten in the 400m hurdle including Maxwell Czarnecki who placed fifth (56.23) and Noah Colangelo who took home 9th (57.89).
- Aidan Budge notched a season-best in the 800m and grabbed a fourth-place finish adding five points to The Blue Devils total.
- In the 1500m, Salvatore Masciarelli finished in 7th (4:02.25) and Steven Baah-Mensah placed 10th after running a 4:03.67.
- Israel Caro IV finished fourth (10:03.25) in the 3000m Steeplechase while his teammate Joseph Lauria finished right behind him (5th) with a season-best time of (10:05.49).
- Nick Fusco and Eddie Nicholas finished fourth (PR, 15:26.87) and eighth (15:39.07) respectively in the 5000m.
- The 4x100m relay team placed fifth including Tristan Burke, Williams Jr, Czarnecki, and Colangelo with a season-best time of 41.76.
- The 4x400m relay team including Czarnecki, Colangelo, Cole Robertson, and Kymoy Phillip placed fourth with a time of 3:23.22.
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
- Alex Heron notched a PR in the Javelin with a 54.65m mark. He placed seventh in the event to add three points to the Blue Devils total.
The Blue Devils will compete next week at Holy Cross on Saturday, April 20th.
