Men's Track & Field Places Second At NEC Indoor Championship
Whittaker takes home MVP and Most Outstanding Runner - Distance Awards as the Blue Devils were 7 points from the top team; Wagner.
The Central Connecticut State men's track and field team placed second as a team, with 156 points at the Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Staten Island New York on Monday. Graduate transfer, Samuel Whittaker received Most Valuable Track Performer as well as Most Outstanding Runner (distance). He accounted for 28 of Centrals points this weekend. Jacob Ireland and the men's DMR relay team broke meet records.
KEY TRACK PERFORMANCES
- Kenny Agwu placed 5th (8.65) for Central in the 60m hurdles to add four points to the Blue Devils total.
- Sophomore, Tristan Burke took second place in the 60m dash in 6.93 seconds for eight points.
- Jake Ireland claimed first place and 10 points for his team in the mile and broke a meet record with a 4:07.17 run. Samuel Whittaker finished behind Ireland to claim second place and nine points with a 4:09.59 run.
- The Blue Devils had three first-year athletes place in the 400m final. Noah Colangelo took third for six points (48.70). Maxwell Czarnecki claimed fourth for five points (49.05) and Jonathan Orlando finished in seventh to add two points (49.98).
- Gabriel Kwarteng came in second in the 500m dash (1:04.04), Kymoy Phillip finished in fifth place (1:05.79), and William Dalles took eighth place (1:06.92) in the event to add a combined 13 points to Centrals total.
- In the 800m run, CCSU compiled 27 points with another first-place finish from Jacob Ireland (1:52.69). Aidan Budge took second place (1:53.41), Ryan McCauley placed fourth (1:54.96), and Chris Abby finished in fifth place (1:55.19).
- Noah Colangelo finished in fourth place in the 200m dash (21.88).
- Samuel Whittaker took first place in the 5000m with a time of 14:26.78. Mark Rodriguez finished sixth in the 5000m (14:51.50).
- The 4000m Distance Medley Relay team broke the meet record with a 10:05.67 time and a first-place finish that included Aidan Budge, Cole Robertson, Ryan McCauley, and Jacob Ireland
- The 4x400 relay team including Maxwell Czarnecki, Noah Colangelo, Kymoy Phillip, and Gabriel Kwarteng with a time of 3:17.35.
KEY FIELD PERFORMANCES

Logan Moore came in fifth in the pole vault (4.30).

Tyrone Mack came in second place (15.57) in the shot put to score eight points for his team.
