Williams Jr. Named NEC Co-Athlete of The Week
Central Connecticut men's track and field senior, Edward Williams Jr. was named the Co-Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week after breaking the 110mH record.
Central Connecticut men's track and field senior, Edward Williams Jr. was named the Co-Northeast Conference Athlete of the Week after breaking the 110mH record at the UMass Flagship Spring Opener on Sunday. Nicolai Yanko and Wenesha Stewart were also named prime performers for their performances over the weekend in Amherst.

Williams Jr. broke the 110m Hurdle record previously set by Jordan Watkins in 2015 (14.38) and placed first with a mark of 13.96. The senior also ran a collegiate best in the 200m (21.79) and finished sixth in the field. Williams Jr was part of the 4x100m really team that notched a second-place finish (42.28). He is ranked first in the NEC in the 110mH, second in the 100m dash (10.61), and sixth in the 200m.
Nicolai Yanko was named an NEC Prime Performer after he marked a collegiate best in the high jump (1.95m 6' 4.75") and placed first in the field at UMass. Yanko holds the second best mark in the conference in the high jump.
Eastern Connecticut State transfer Wenesha Stewart had a great showing at the UMass Flagship Opener where she notched two collegiate bests. Stewart took fourth place (39.25m) in the discus and sixth in the shot put with a 12.9m throw (both collegiate bests). Stewart's mark in the shot put stands at second best in the conference with her Discus mark ranking third. Her mark in the Hammer on Sunday (39.44m) ranks 14th in the conference, respectively.
