Central Connecticut sophomore Eric Hawerchuk shaved five strokes off his opening round 80, posting a four over par 75 in second round play at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Northeast Regional at the Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, NJ. He is now tied for 42nd heading into final round action on the par 71, 7,022 yard course.

Hawerchuk started on the back nine in second round action. After parring the 10th hole to begin his round, the Orangeville, Ontario native birdied 11. He also birdied the par five 16th on the back side. However, five bogies led to a 39. Hawerchuk parred eight of nine holes on the front nine. His only miscue, a bogey five, came on the par four fourth hole.
Kent State sophomore John Hahn shot a four under par 67 to move into first place in the individual standings. He is at even par 142 through two rounds. Tennessee freshman Darren Renwick, the leader after opening round play, is in a tie for second at 143. Tennessee held the team lead. The Volunteers (583) are five strokes in front of Alabama.
Hawerchuk will tee off on number 10 again tomorrow. He will start final round play at 8:10 a.m.
