Tyler Kohl Earns NEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Kohl shares the honor after nearly averaging a triple-double last week.
Central Connecticut junior Tyler Kohl was named Northeast Conference co-Player of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office. Kohl shared the honor with Mount St. Mary's Junior Robinson after helping the Blue Devils split a pair of league contests on the road last week. Kohl nearly averaged a triple-double en-route to his second NEC Player of the Week award of the season.
CCSU is 12-11 overall on the season and 5-5 in the NEC. Central is in action again on Thursday, Feb. 1, at Wagner in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
Kohl piled up 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a CCSU split. Kohl narrowly missed a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in Saturday's 94-89 overtime setback at LIU Brooklyn. He scored 18 of his team-high 23 points after halftime against the Blackbirds to help CCSU erase an 18-point deficit, and then netted all seven of his team's points in OT. Kohl was just one off his career-high when he tallied 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in an 80-74 win at Bryant on Thursday.
Kohl is the lone NEC player who ranks in the conference top-10 in scoring (15.5, ninth), rebounding (7.8, third) and assists (4.2, fifth). Kohl has scored 20 or more points in nine games this season, including each of the last three contests. The 6-foot-5 wing also earned Player of the Week honors back on Nov. 27.
Central travels to Wagner on Thursday, Feb. 1.
