Baseball Drops Finale at FDU on Saturday
Blue Devils fall 3-1 on the road, split NEC series
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision in the series finale on the road at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 13-14 overall and 5-7 in Northeast Conference play this season.
The game was scoreless until the eighth inning when junior Dominic Severino singled through the left side to score senior J.P. Sportman who had doubled to lead off the inning.
The Knights scored three in the bottom of the inning when they strung together five hits to take a 3-1 lead. Riley Moonan and John Giakas each singled in runs in the inning for the home team.
The Blue Devils could not score in the ninth inning, and the Knights earned the win to even the weekend series 2-2.
Freshman right hander Matt Blandino pitched for the Blue Devils, going eight innings and allowing nine hits and three earned runs. He is now 2-2 on the season. He struck one.
Senior Josh Ingham had three hits in the loss for the Blue Devils. Severino had the only RBI.
