Baseball Drops Finale at Bethune-Cookman
Blue Devils are scheduled to host Quinnipiac on Tuesday afternoon
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision in the series finale at Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon. Central had won the first two games of the weekend series. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 4-5 overall on the season. The Blue Devils are scheduled to host Quinnipiac at home on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
After posting a season-high 17 hits in Saturday's 8-6 victory, the Blue Devils managed just four hits in Sunday's loss.
Senior righty Nick Neumann picked up the loss on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing 11 hits and three earned runs. He struck out seven and walked only one in the loss.
Freshman Brendan Smith pitched one inning allowing two hits and an earned run. Classmate Brett Susi pitched the eighth inning without allowing a base runner and striking out one batter.
Bethune-Cookman scored one run in the second inning and two more in the fifth to build the lead. They added one in the seventh to avoid the weekend sweep at the hands of the Blue Devils.
Central will be in action again at home on Tuesday hosting Quinnipiac beginning at 3 p.m. The game will be the home opener for the Blue Devils. They will also play at home this coming weekend hosting Seton Hall in a doubleheader on Saturday and Iona in a single game on Sunday.
