Baseball Falls 9-8 at UCF in Game Two of Series
Ingham and Fitzsimons each drive in two in narrow loss
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped the second game of a weekend series on the at UCF on Saturday, 9-8. Senior Josh Ingham and sophomore Connor Fitzsimons each drove in a pair of runs in the loss. Central is now 1-2 overall on the season. The two teams will finish the weekend series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. Freshman Matt Blandino is scheduled to take the mound for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on the first RBI of the game from Fitzsimons. An RBI groundout from freshman Yuri Morin made it 2-0.
UCF took a 4-2 lead with four runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Blue Devils responded in the top of the third. A five-run inning made it 7-4 in favor of the visitors.
With the bases loaded freshman Pat Sirois walked to plate the first run of the frame. Junior Brian Rivera singled to score the second run, a Fitzsimons bases loaded walk and a two-RBI single from Ingham gave the Blue Devils the three-run lead.
UCF scored one in the bottom of the third to make it 7-5. They took an 8-7 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Blue Devils tied the game 8-8 in the eighth inning on an RBI single from junior Dominic Severino. AN RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave UCF the 9-8 win.
Senior Nick Neumann pitched the first four innings and allowed eight runs on seven hits for the Blue Devils. Junior Jesse Frawley went three innings without allowing a run on three hits. Severino pitched 1.2 innings and was saddled with the loss after allowing one run on three hits.
Ingham and Fitzsimons each drove in a pair of runs. The Blue Devils had 11 hits after posting just three in Friday's loss. Morin, Ingham and senior J.P. Sportman each had two hits.
