Coughlin Repeats as NEC Pitcher of the Week
Senior hasn't allowed a run in 20 innings
Senior righty Tom Coughlin was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week on Monday. Coughlin and the Blue Devils split an NEC series with Mount St. Mary's over the weekend, and are now 9-9 overall and 2-2 in league action.
Coughlin was solid again on Friday in a 6-0 win over the Mount. He extending his scoreless innings streak to 20 innings with a complete-game nine-inning shutout in Friday's win. The shutout was his second straight.
Coughlin faced only 33 batters in the game and allowed only five hits, all singles, while striking out six Mount St. Mary's batters. He allowed only one batter to reach third base in the game while improving his record to 3-1 on the season and dropping his ERA below one. Coughlin faced more than four batters in an inning just once in the nine-inning game.
Coughlin has allowed only three earned runs in 29 innings pitched this season. His ERA is 0.93 places 14th nationally as of Monday's statistics release by the NCAA. Opponents are batting just .167 vs. the senior who has allowed only one extra-base hit this season while striking out 22.
