Baseball Drops Finale vs. the Mount
Blue Devils will play on the road at Holy Cross on Tuesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped the series finale vs. Mount St. Mary's at home on Sunday, losing 6-5. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in Northeast Conference play this season. The Mount is 9-11 overall and 2-2 in league play.
The Mount struck first with a solo home run from Korey Britton to lead off the second inning. An RBI single from Chris DelVecchio made it 2-0 later in the inning.
The Blue Devils tied the game in the bottom of the inning. With men on second and third senior Anthony Turgeon singled to left field to plate both runners and tied the game 2-2.
Mount regained the lead with an RBI from Ryan Owens in the third inning. With a man on second Owens singled lightly in between first and second, and Andrew Clow beat the throw home from the second baseman for the 3-2 lead.
The Mount lead reached 6-2 with three runs in the fourth. A two-RBI triple from Brandon Scott was followed by an RBI double from Andrew Frazier to push the lead to four. The Blue Devils got a run back on a sacrifice fly from Turgeon in the bottom of the fourth. It was his third RBI of the game.
Central scored a pair of two out runs in the fifth inning to make it 6-5. Junior Dominic Severino drove in hie first run and then sophomore Connor Fitzsimons drove in the second run of the inning. The hit was the third of the game for Severino.
Senior righty Anthony Mannuccia was stellar in relief for the Blue Devils. He pitched the final 5.2 innings and faced just two over the minimum, retiring 17 of the 20 batters he faced.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. on the road at Holy Cross.
