Coughlin Named NEC Pitcher of the Week
Has allowed just one earned run in last two outings
Senior righthander Tom Coughlin was named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Coughlin pitched a gem for the Blue Devils against #22 Seton Hall in a 1-0 victory.
Coughlin posted his second straight solid and picked up his first shutout of the season with a 1-0 win at home over Seton Hall on Saturday. He held Seton Hall, who came into the game with a 17-4 record and the fifth-highest batting average in the country (.323), to four hits while posting six strikeouts in a 1-0 win over the Pirates on Saturday.
Coughlin did not allow a batter past second base in the game and never faced more than four batters in any one inning. He retired 10 of the last 12 batters he faced and allowed only one extra-base hit. In his last two appearances (vs. UCF and Seton Hall) Coughlin has thrown 15 innings while allowing eight hits, posting 16 k's while walking just three.
He is 2-0 in those two starts. On the season he sports a 1.35 ERA.
