Baseball Falls to Army in Winter Haven, Florida
Blue Devils will play UConn on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 9-1 decision to Army on Tuesday night at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Florida. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 2-3 overall on the season. Army is now 12-5 overall.
The Blue Devils were held to just three hits in the contest, one each from freshman Tom Rinaldi, sophomore Jeff Osak and junior Nick Coro.
Senior Anthony Mannuccia got the start on the mound for the Blue Devils and gave up six runs, four earned, and six hits in five innings. He struck out three. Freshman Kevin Connolly pitched a pair of innings for the Blue Devils and allowed two runs, both unearned, while posting two strikeouts. Freshman Austin Salnitis pitched one inning and allowed one earned run and two hits while striking out three.
The Black Knights scored two in the first and three in the third to open a five run lead. They added one more in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the eighth inning.
Central's lone run came in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from sophomore catcher Connor Fitzsimons.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against UConn, also at Chain of Lakes Stadium. Following the game with UConn, the Blue Devils will travel to Daytona Beach for a weekend series at Bethune Cookman.
