Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Seton Hall
Blue Devils are scheduled to play Iona at home on Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday with Seton Hall, winning game one 1-0 and losing game two 2-0. With the split the Blue Devils are now 5-7 overall. Seton Hall is 18-5 overall on the season.
In game one, senior Tom Coughlin pitched a gem posting his second win and first shutout of the season. He went all seven innings and scattered four hits while striking out six batters and not allowing a runner to reach third base. Coughlin has now allowed just one run in his last two starts and is 2-0 in those games.
The Blue Devils scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. A pair of walks and a pair of wild pitches scored senior J.P. Sportman for the game's only run.
In game two the Pirates scored twice in the fourth inning on a two-RBI triple from designated hitter Tyler Boyd, the only runs of the game.
Senior Nick Neumann got the loss on the mound for the Blue Devils, but pitched well on the afternoon. He went seven innings while allowing just four hits one earned run and striking out eight Seton Hall batters. Freshman Matt Blandino pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit or a run.
The Blue Devils had just four hits in the second game. Seton Hall's Anthony Elia pitched the complete game while allowing just four hits and striking out seven for his third win of the season.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to host Iona on Sunday in a single game at 1 p.m.
