Women's Lacrosse Falls at Wagner
Senior Meaghan McCurry recorded her 150th career point with a goal against Wagner on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Wagner on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field on Staten Island. The Blue Devils fall to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in Northeast Conference play with the 15-7 loss. The Seahawks improve to 5-6 and 1-1 in the NEC with the win.
Freshman Alexandra Hooker scored three of the Blue Devils seven goals, including a pair of scores off free position attempts in the second half.
The Seahawks opened the game with a 4-0 run, but the Blue Devils quickly responded with three goals over a five minute stretch. Sophomore Falynn McCartney scored an unassisted goal at the 18:06 mark and Hooker followed with a score at the 15:29 mark. After recording the assist on the Hooker's goal, senior Amanda Toke capped the run with a free position score.
After falling behind 8-3, senior Meghan McCurry found the net, with the help of sophomore Elyse Malecki, with 1:37 left in the half. McCurry's goal was the 150th point of her collegiate career, she has 113 career goals and 37 assists. She ranks among the top-five in CCSU history in points, goals and assists.
The Blue Devils added three goals in the second half, including two by Hooker. Freshman Marissa Soto also had an unassisted goal in the period.
Junior Morgan Tullar made a season-high 15 saves, but also allowed 15 goals. She also picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Tullar falls to 4-7 on the season with the loss.
Senior defender Cierra Ward posted a team-high three caused turnovers and also picked up three ground balls, which matched the team-high. Ward, Tullar, senior Ashley Olhausen and freshman Courtney McPartland were each credited with three ground balls in the game.
Olhausen and McPartland were also each credited with two caused turnovers in the contest.
The goal for Toke was her 22nd of the season, she currently leads the team in that category. Her 32 points and 10 assists are also team highs.
Hooker's three goals give her 10 on the season. Toke, McCartney, Malecki and McCurry have also registered double-digit goals this season.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Friday against Saint Francis U. CCSU and the Red Flash are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Arute Field.
