Women's Lacrosse Loses to Lafayette
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon at Arute Field.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Lafayette by a score of 12-7 on Tuesday afternoon at Arute Field. The Blue Devils (2-6) were led offensively by senior Amanda Toke who recorded a hat-trick.
The Blue Devils and Leopards (4-7) played an exciting back-and-forth game in the first half with both teams scoring five goals.
CCSU jumped on the board first with an unassisted goal by sophomore Falynn McCartney with 28:52 left in the period. After a Lafayette goal tied the game, freshman Kelsey Murphy found the net, for the second time this season, to give the Blue Devils a 2-1.
Lafayette scored the next two goals to take a 3-2 lead, but McCartney answered for the Blue Devils to tie the game at 3-3. McCartney's goal came without an assist as she controlled the draw, ran on the goal and scored without help.
Two more goals by the Leopards had the Blue Devils facing a 5-3 deficit with 5:51 left on the first half clock. The Blue Devils responded with an unassisted goal by Madison Hughes and a free position score by Toke to tie the game at 5-5 before the break.
CCSU grabbed its final lead of the game with 26:30 left in the second half as McCartney passed to Toke for a 6-5 lead.
However, Lafayette responded with five goals over the next 14 minutes to take a 10-6 lead.
With 8:53 left Toke cut the deficit to 10-7 with an unassisted goal that swung the momentum toward the Blue Devils.
However, CCSU was unable to complete the comeback and Lafayette tacked on two goals over the final five minutes.
Junior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar made 12 saves in the game, including 11 in the first half. She also picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in the game.
Toke and McCartney both had three points to share a team-high. Toke also had three draw controls, while McCartney and freshman Courtney McPartland each had a pair.
In addition to scoring a goal, Hughes also scooped up four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Senior Cierra Ward registered three caused turnovers and two ground balls in the contest.
The Leopards were led by a six-point performance by Laura Kleiber. She scored four goals and recorded two assists.
The Blue Devils will close their three game home stand by hosting Howard on Saturday at 1 p.m.
