Blue Devils Topped at Duquesne, 83-58, Saturday
Lydon finished with a team-best 15 points.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Duquesne 83-58 on Saturday inside the Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, PA. The Blue Devils were led by junior Andi Lydon with 15 points, all of which came in the opening 20 minutes of action, four rebounds, three assists and one block. CCSU out-scored the Dukes 23-13 in transition.
The Dukes advance to 7-2 on the season and shot 47.7 percent from the floor (31-65) and connected on 13-of-24 (.542) three-pointers. Junior Dukes guard Julijana Voljinovic paced the Keystone State squad with 25 points, nine boards and four assists.
The first quarter got off to a hot-start for both teams, trading baskets for the first four minutes of the game. A Lydon three-pointer off of a pass from junior Kiana Patterson gave Central a 9-8 at the 7:09 mark in the first quarter. The Dukes' Chassidy Omogrosso connected on three three-pointers in the first quarter as Duquesne broke away from the Blue Devils with the score at 14-12, to lead by nine heading into the second quarter.
Lydon went 4-of-6 from the field in the first quarter registering 12 points.
Freshman Emma McCamus, in her first career start as a Blue Devil, finished a tough layup through contact with the shot clock winding down at the 8:09 mark in the second quarter. The Dukes ran off on a 19-6 run to start the second quarter to open its lead 42-20.
CCSU made 11-of-34 (.324) from the field and knocked down four threes. The Dukes made 6-of-13 (.462) three-pointers in the first half and 17-of-33 (.515) from the floor. Lydon leads all-scorers at the break with 15 points.
The Duke continued their high-efficiency offense in the third quarter, shooting 8-of-17 from the floor including five trifectas. With just under two minutes to go graduate student Morgan Johnson connected on back-to-back three-pointers and finished the game flawless from downtown (3-3) with nine points.
The Blue Devils matched the A-10 opponent in scoring in the final quarter.
Patterson went 4-of-9 from the field, good for 10 points and added three assists. Senior Brianna Jacobs chipped in six points, a team-high six rebounds and two steals. McCamus pulled down five rebounds.
The women's basketball team next travels to local rival Hartford on Wednesday, Dec. 6 for a 7:00 p.m. showdown inside the Reich Family Pavilion in West Hartford, CT.
