Women's Basketball Shorted by Brown, 78-55, on Thursday

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team was slighted on it home-opener Thursday night, 78-55, against Ivy League member Brown who stole away its second straight win of the season. After facing a 23-0 Brown run to open the game, the Blue Devils cut the Bears lead down to eight with 5:53 left in the third quarter but could not overcome the deficit in the long run.
Junior forward, Andi Lydon carried CCSU with a game-high 23 points (9-20), 21 of which came in the last 20 minutes of action, and pulled down a game-tying high eight boards. The junior also dished off three assists. The Blue Devils capitalized 16 points off of 17 Brown turnovers.
The Blue Devils fall to 0-3 on the year and Brown improves to 2-0.
Brown had three players score in double-figures led by Justine Gaziano and Taylor Will with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Shayna Mehta added 13 points.
Following a cold first half from the floor, Central shot .455 percent from the field in the second half. Junior Kiana Patterson sank 2-of-3 three points and tallied eight points.
Freshmen Ashley Forker and Ashley Berube both made solid contributions in their first career home game in Detrick Gymnasium. Forker went 3-for-4 with seven points, five rebounds and one steal. Berube recorded three blocks for Central. Junior Denisha Gardener also had five rebounds.
Brown held a 55-41 advantage over the Blue Devils on the glass and shot .427 (32-of-75) on the night. CCSU was .306 (22-of-72).
The Blue Devils capitalized 16 points off of 17 Brown turnovers.
CCSU women's basketball will head back on the road to State College, PA to play Penn State at the Bryce Jordan Center on Monday, Nov. 20 at 6:00 p.m.
