
Six Past Champions To Serve As Honorary Captains At Saturday Football Game
Central Connecticut State announced today honorary captains for Saturday’s NEC Football game, with the league championship on the line, will represent each of the Blue Devils six championship teams.
Central Connecticut State announced today honorary captains for Saturday's NEC Football game, with the league championship on the line, will represent each of the Blue Devils six championship teams.
The honorary captains on Saturday will be Scott Dolch, representing the 2004 team, Coree Tucker, representing the 2005 champions, Aubrey Norris from the 2009 squad, Mike Allison from the 2010 champions, Jake Dolegala from the 2017 team and Tre Jones from the 2019 championship squad.
Dolch led the 2004 squad to the Blue Devils first-ever NEC Football championship, with an 8-2 record and a 6-1 conference record. Four Blue Devils earned First-Team All-NEC and Andrew Smith was the Offensive Rookie of the year. Tucker was one of three Blue Devil defenders to earn First-Team honors a season later, as the Blue Devils went back-to-back. CCSU went 5-2 in league play in the 2005 campaign, and a 7-4 overall record.
In 2009 the Blue Devils won nine times in the regular season, took home three major NEC awards and Norris was name Second-Team All-NEC at quarterback. That squad posted a 4-0 record at home and won the league with a 7-1 record.
For the second time in the decade, and with Adam Lechtenberg on the sideline a year later, CCSU again went back-to-back as league champions. Allison was one of three Central players on the NEC First-Team, leading the Blue Devils to eight wins, a 5-0 home record and a 7-1 league mark.
Dolegala led the 2017 squad into the CCSU history book as the Blue Devils first undefeated NEC champion, going 6-0 in capturing the league title. Two years later, Jones, a First-Team All-NEC selection, led the 2019 team to an unbeaten league record of 7-0, on its way to a school-record 11 victories, including a 5-0 home record.
The Blue Devil football team hosts #19 Duquesne on Saturday, at 12:00 pm, for a chance to win the NEC Football Championship. The winning team on Saturday will earn the league's AQ to the FCS Championship.
