Jean Named NEC Football Defensive Player and Rookie Of The Week
Jean had two fumble recoveries, including one that he returned 49 yards for a touchdown to help CCSU rally for a double-overtime win over Robert Morris.
Redshirt freshman Christopher Jean has been named the Northeast Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. He is joined as an NEC Prime Performer by Elijah Howard and Malachi Wright for their efforts in the Blue Devils win over Robert Morris on Saturday.
Jean, a native of Rochester, NY, played a large role in the Blue Devils fourth quarter comeback. With leading 24-10 and driving into CCSU territory, he forced a fumble and recovered it at the Blue Devils 36-yard line. That resulted in the Blue Devils' first touchdown drive of the fourth quarter. On the Colonials' next drive, he recovered a fumble forced by Wright and returned it 49 yards to tie the score 24-24.
Jean finished with two tackles, two fumble recoveries, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble. Wright recorded the forced fumble, five tackles, and a pass breakup in the win. Howard racked up 99 all-purpose yards on Saturday and scored the game-tying touchdown in the second overtime.
The Blue Devils, 6-5 overall and 4-1 in NEC play will host Duquesne on Saturday with a chance to earn a share of the league title and berth to the FCS Playoffs.
